Today's youth group message was on the cause of discontent. The teacher's edition booklet has a little page about what makes some celebrities content and what doesn't fulfill them.
Of the many celebrities and their sayings, I liked what Mel Gibson and the pop star Pink said.

Today's lesson was on Saul being jealous and his envy finally destroying his relationship with his son and David from 1 Samuel 18:6~18. I could sense that a lot of my youth kids were envious of those students who had good long-term memory and intelligence--the ones who don't study hard, but always get good grades because they are born genius.
My prayer for my youth kids is Colossians 1:9. "For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding."
God, I have begun to pray for my youth kids that they will seek wisdom and knowledge from You since the moment I heard about their struggle. LORD, hear their cries and help them to pay close attention in class, manage their time wisely, and gain good/effective studying skills to do well in school. Yet, I pray that they will come to know that knowing You and understanding the Word of God is more important than getting A's in their classes. Father, let my youth kids have strong faith. Help them to strive to have stronger and deeper faith each day goes by. God, I pray that the ones who already have salvation to keep their eye on You and the ones who do not yet have true salvation seek salvation from You. Give them burning desire to have strong conviction that You are the only way and the truth (John 14:6) to eternal salvation. In Jesus, our LORD and savior, name I pray. Amen.
